With more than 130 varieties of camellias and 130 types of roses—charmingly named Compassion, Iceberg, Climbing Ballerina, Crème de la Crème, and Waimarie, to name a few—there’s always something new to discover.
Aaron’s role often feels more like detective work than gardening. Armed with books, encyclopedias, and online resources, he even takes samples to the Auckland Botanic Gardens to identify rare species. Having already photographed around 80% of the village’s collection, his next project is to create a book of plants and flowers that residents and visitors can treasure for years to come.
